Summertime fishing is heating up!!!

Hello everyone, Hope you are enjoying the hot weather and are ready for some hot fishing. Our summer season started off slow with small croakers and spot and not being able to keep speckled trout has really hurt our flats fishing in the early part of the summer, but things are starting to get right. We have plenty of bluefish and a few spanish mackerel starting to show up which is a great sign this early in the summer. Trolling is becoming very steady with bluefish up to 3 lbs. and a few more mackerel showing up all the time. The big reds are getting into the area, but so far are very scattered. We haven't seen the big schools of them yet, but is still early. Flats fishing is also starting to get good with some big croaker and small blues in the grass beds, we are also catching some nice speckled trout which are hard to throw back knowing how good they are on the grill. Aug. 1, we will be able to start keeping the trout and even after the big kills this winter, it seems to be a good number of them around. We have weekend dates available as fishing looks to only keep getting better throughout the summer, so don't miss your chance to bring your family or friends aboard and enjoy a great day on the Bay with us.

Summer is here, time to switch gears!!!

Hello everyone, Hope all is well and you are ready for the start of summer. We are very thankful for everyone who joined us this spring for a great spring rockfish season, We were able to catch the big boys for a couple extra weeks than planned and were lucky enough to still have some great schoolie striper action over Memorial Day weekend. Now it is time to put the rockfish gear away and pull out the summer gear. We are now going to be bottom fishing, chumming, and trolling for blues, spanish mackerel, spot, and croakers. Bottom fishing is already starting to produce some decent numbers of fish, but so far its quality over quantity, lots of action with a few nice spot mixed in, but mostly some smaller croakers and spot. A few 1-2 lb. blues are showing up which is a great sign to see them this early and we'll be trolling for them in the coming weeks. Things are shaping up for a great start to the summer and hopefully will continue to get even better once we start getting consistently hot temperatures to bring the red drum and spanish mackerel up the Bay and they should be here by July. Don't miss your chance to bring the family and/or friends along and enjoy a great day on the Bay this summer with us.

Fish Tales and Karma

Hello everyone, Hope you are enjoying the nice spring weather we are having as we much as we have along with some great fishing. Our trophy season is entering its last week as we are wrapping it up after next sunday, May 11. First off I'd like to thank everyone who has been on board so far this spring and those who will be coming this week. We still have 2 open dates 5/6 and 5/7 as long as a last chance makeup trip for saturday. I still have 4 spots available for Sunday, $120 per person includes tip and one of your last chances to wrestle a big one for the spring. Yesterday was the last day of our spring rockfish tournament. Dad and I did some scouting on May 1, since it was the first day we could fish in Virginia. We went below Smith Point and threw our gear and began to look for some bait and bites. We fished for about a half hour and started to see some good signs. We were marking bait and seeing menhaden whip on the surface. The next turn and 2 board lines came tight with big fish. He fought one and I the other, mine came to the boat first and was 44" 37 lbs. After another 10 minutes of having a hard time moving his giant, we netted a 48" 43 lb monster. Satisfied with what we had seen, we decided to be tight lipped and fish VA for the first day of the tournament. This fish is my dad's first ever citation rockfish that he's reeled in. I'm sure you all know about karma and some of you probably believe and some don't, I do. We left early Friday am to put up a smoke screen and act as if we were making the long run to Tangier Sound we have been doing and snuck into Virginia. We started fishing at 6:30 and fished ALL DAY LONG. The bait had disappeared and so had the giants. We finally managed 1 20 lb. fish and I realized karma had got me. I tried to be sneaky and selfish and it got me. Day 2 of the tournament was much better fishing, but we never got the one we were looking for. Moral of the story is to always share with your fellow fisherman your success and it will always help out in the long run. Maybe next year will be our year to win but until then we'll keep dragging around looking for the big ones. Hopefully we'l see you on board, don't forget to book your trip as trophy season winds down. We'll start chumming May 17 and bottom fishing will take over in June.

Spring Season is already half over!!!

Hello everyone, It seems once we start fishing, time sure does fly. It drags on for so long until we get the lines in the water, but then it flies by. Our trophy season is already nearing its midway point. Fishing has been from fair to great so far this season. We've had days where we have been done by 9 am and others where it's been a slow all day pluck. It has been more good days than slow ones, but as they say that's fishing. We still have dates available to bring your group between now and 5/11 the end of our trophy season. We are also still working on makeup trips for 5/5 and 5/8. I have a couple spots left for 5/5 and we are still completely open for 5/8. Bring your buddies and call us for a trip and a chance at getting your first big bass of the year or join us on one of our make up days and make some new fishing buddies!! See you on board soon.

A delayed start, but it doesn't get any better!!

Everybody that has a boat knows that there is always something to be worked on or be fixed and sometimes these things don't happen at the best time. Last thursday, we had an alternator go bad, and wouldn't you know it it took 2 days and four different alternators to get the right one and get going again. This was one of those times when it needed to be done yesterday and we missed opening day for the first time in 4 years. After getting everything back together and enjoying a laid back Easter Sunday we started fishing today. I had a great group today and one man in particular has fished with me since day 1 and has never had a citation rockfish. He has seen quite a few of them caught, but has never been on the right end of the rod. Today was a little different for him and a first for us since we've been running trips. We started fishing around 7:30 and had our limit by 10:30 and had thrown a few back and had a couple bites that didn't come tight. What was really special about this trip was everyone on board had a citation today. Things looked great today with bait balls everywhere and lots of hungry fish around. From what we saw and heard today, it sounds like we are in for another great spring!!! We still have open dates and are still trying to put together a few make up trips, those dates are 4/28,5/1,5/5, and 5/10. So give us a call and bring your group for a great day on the Bay or come meet some new fishing buddies for $120/person on one of our make up trips. As always our calendar is up to date and we look forward to seeing you on board!

Spring Trophy Makeup Trips

Hello everyone, The time has come and spring trophy season is here. Starting this Saturday April 19 thru May 15 we will be hunting the big ones and so far from the preseason reports I've heard things are looking good. I'll be doing some prefishing the endo of the week and will post pics then. This year, we will be trying to throw together some make up trips for the spring season. I have spoke to a few people who can't get enough people together for a full group that usually fish with us during the winter. After the past 2 winter seasons, I understand skepticism from some, but last spring was phenomenal and so far all the signs I've seen and heard about make it sound even more promising than last year. Make up charters will be for 5-8 people and be filled first come first serve. I am going to attempt to accomodate everyone as best I can if anyone is interested and has a specific date in mind, especially if you have 2-4 people, I can usually find a straggler or 2 to fill the boat and also have a few weekend dates availablefor makeups as well. The cost of makeups will be $120 a person including tip for the mate. The planned makeup trips will be April 19, 22, 27, 28 and May 5, 9, and 10. The calendar is still up on the website if anyone has a small group and certain date in mind. We are looking forward to a great spring season now that the weather has finally broke, so grab your flip flops and t shirts and we'll see you soon.

Spring has sprung and the bass are here!!!

Hello everybody, I think spring has finally reared its head and is starting to show. Old man winter sure stayed a little too long this year for my liking, but I believe he has finally loosened his grip on us. With that being said, we have a lot going on trying to catch up on our spring maintenence, because it can be difficult to paint and wax when she's covered in ice and snow. We have done a lot of sanding and painting the past week, redoing cabin floors, the entire cockpit and many other small upgrades and fixes. I can't wait to get out there and get fishing in 2.5 weeks. Trophy season is getting close and we still have some open dates including OPENING DAY, Saturday, April 19th!!! There are also a couple of sundays open and quite a few weekdays to get your rockfish fix on. Most of you are probably like me and haven't even seen one since early January or even longer than that. All signs are pointing to a great spring season. The big fish are here as evidence by the commercial catch over the past month and the menhaden are here in numbers I haven't seen in a while. I drove across the Whitestone bridge and it looked like a bird show down the river with so many gannets falling out the sky feeding on the menhaden. Don't wait too long to get your date for the spring trophy season and get your first crack at a big one for the year. As always, our calendar is up to date at www.c4charters.com, looking forward to seeing you on board soon. Hope all is well!!!
